Setting Up a Crime Analysis Unit and the Basics

Time and time again, new crime analysts are told, "Go set up a unit." The analyst quickly realizes that while resources are available, what to do first, second, and third can be very confusing and frustrating. This class focuses on logical and orderly steps that a newly assigned analyst can take when setting up a crime analysis unit. In addition, demonstrations and exercises covering basic principals in crime analysis such as pattern recognition, data collection & integrity, and basic statistics are covered. Training, resources, books, websites, site visits, data availability and conferences are amongst the topics addressed during this course. Supervisors are encouraged to attend with the analyst(s) during this 3-day course. Outline in Adobe PDF format.
